Hayling Island U3A - July Update

Next Thursday's monthly meeting will introduce us to the work of the Hampshire air ambulance. Note this is a change to the programme shown at the beginning of the year.

Not a lot of news this month, so here's a reminder about the Second World War project...

Following the success of our book on Hayling during the First World War, we are applying for a Lottery grant to produce a new book covering Hayling during the Second World War and the intervening years. In anticipation, Mike Burnham is collecting useful material and arranging interviews with people that have relevant memories. If you can help or know someone that could help, please contact Mike Burnham: get in touch with him direct.

U3A visit to Hampton Court on 19 July

Dear Member

You may be aware that Jackie Radford and Terry Foster have both resigned from the U3A Visits Committee due to other commitments. I am pleased to say that Debbie Wilsher has come forward and has now taken over Jackie's role.

This is just to let you know that the visit to Hampton Court is now open for bookings. We had originally wanted to combine the visit with a river trip from Chertsey but this proved too expensive and time consuming. In any event there is so much to see at Hampton Court that a day is hardly sufficient.

Secrets of staying sharp in later life

A U3A Royal Society Healthy Ageing Lecture 2017 in association with The European Alliance for the Brain, presented by Professor Ian Deary, Professor of Differential Psychology, Director, MRC Centre for Cognitive Ageing and Cognitive Epidemiology University of Edinburgh.

Professor Deary is an entertaining and informative speaker, familiar to some U3A members. He will explore the reasons why some people’s brains and thinking skills age better than others, as described in The Disconnected Mind, a research project which is helping to find some answers.

The Spring edition of the Hayling Island newsletter is now available in electronic form.

You can:
