KeymasterWe’ll take two routes to Petersfield:
- I’ll leave HIADS at 9am to cycle to Petersfield via Butser Hill – a relatively easy hill over the Downs
- Those not wanting to cycle the whole way should meet at HIADS at 10am with a view to catching the 10.40 train from Havant (or, perhaps, the earlier 10.34) to Petersfield.
There are, of course, other ways to join the train including: parking at The Ship; and getting a train from Portsmouth (for members that live there).
We’ll meet in Café Mezzo – on the south side of the High Street a short distance to the west of the junction with Dragon Street.
We have two obvious routes back:
- Up Butser Hill – a short but very steep hill. Pushing up is not a great hardship and, from the top, it’s a pleasant route back to Rowlands Castle.
- Through the Butser Cutting – a shared walking and cycling path so no traffic. Not as steep a hill, but longer. From the end of the cutting we would go back via Chalton meeting up with the Butser Hill route.
My current inclination is option 1 and I know others will feel the same, but we could split into two groups.
I propose we stop for lunch at the George in Finchdean. Currently we have riders:
- Me
- Peter W
David- Ann
- Bob
- Martine
- Mike?
I’ll book a table for 7. Please let me know if you won’t be stopping or if I’ve missed you off the list.

KeymasterPeter Haskell will be away for June 8th so he’s offering to lead a ride over to Compton on the 1st. Please let Peter know if you’d like to join him.
I’m still planning to lead a ride on the 8th. My preference is still for a Petersfield trip because:
- We should be able to eat outside together at The George in Finchdean
- Chichester is potentially a long ride and we’d be better doing some more preparation for it
Let me know what you think,
Andy

KeymasterWeather’s looking reasonable for tomorrow. We’ll be:

- David Dodgson
- Ann Kent
- Martine and Phil
- Peter Walmsley
Meeting at 10 at HIADS (Martine and Phil at the Spring).

KeymasterYes, that’s OK.

KeymasterBeat me to it. I was going to send out a note this morning. Yes, all set for tomorrow.
Andy Henderson
KeymasterSorry to hear that, Tim.
Hope to see you next month.

KeymasterI’ve spoken to everyone about the ride today (Tuesday 4th May) and I’ve decided to abandon.
I’d like to try to reschedule. Possible days for me are:
Monday, 10th
Wednesday 12th
After this we’re (hopefully) riding to the ‘rule of 30’
Monday 17th
Tuesday 18th
Friday 21stIf you’re in the 4th May group and you’d still like to ride, please let me know your availability. I doubt we’ll find a date we all can make, but I’ll go with the majority.
If you’re not in that group and you’d like to join in, let me know your availability and I’ll try to fit you in (easier after the 17th).

KeymasterCan’t help that. WordPress is doing what it can and might be limited by your email software. Correctly formatted message appears above.

KeymasterAs things stand, The ride works out like this:
Rider 4th May 11th May Peter Haskell ✔ Ann Kent ✔ David Dodgson ✔ Bob Hornby ✔ Martine Hebblethwaite ✔ Gil Carter ✔ Carol Carter ✔ Tim Rampton ✔ Peter Walmsley ✔ With one space left on the 11th.

KeymasterPeter Haskell has agreed to come with me on a Portsmouth CTC ride to Stokes Bay, so we’re back to two rides of six:
6th April:
- Peter W
- Martine
- Phil
- Derek
- David
13th April:
- Gil
- Carol
- Mike
- Maggi
- Ann
Andy Henderson
KeymasterWell that seems to work remarkably well – I must have got something wrong.
If we split like this:
6th April:
- Peter H
- Martine
- Phil
- Derek
13th April:
- Gil
- Carol
- Mike
- Maggi
Peter W and David can do either date so we can make up five plus me for each date! I’ll ask if they have a preference.

KeymasterIn this document, the Government provides the same stipulation as Sport England. Under ‘Understanding ‘organised sport’ it says:
Where the rules mention ‘organised’ sport, this means sport which is formally organised by a qualified instructor, club, national governing body, company or charity and follows sport-specific guidance.
The same wording as used by Sport England.

KeymasterI’m sorry to say I’ve already had a request from Carol and Gil which takes us to six riders.
Sorry
Andy Henderson
KeymasterWe’ll go tomorrow. We’ll be:

KeymasterThe ferry has just issued a revised timetable but the mid-morning sailings remain unchanged.
I suggest we go for the 10.35 sailing from Hayling to get a slightly better temperature at the start.
