Hayling ferry is re-launching

It’s a triumph for a bunch of persistent and hard-working people and for community support – the ferry is due to be re-launched tomorrow 5th August with a full, Summer service starting Saturday 6th August.

The opening event is free and starts at 12.30 including: pyrotechnics, Police guard of honour, music by local star Chloe Anne, free face painting, and the Portsmouth Football Club mascot.

For one day only, crossings will be £1 per trip.

Service updates will appear on Facebook and Twitter. There will also be an on-board mobile phone – I’ll update Cycle Hayling's ferry status page when I know the number.

Swan Lake at the Coliseum

The Third Age Trust has arranged a special viewing of the Australian Ballet's production of Swan Lake at the London Coliseum on Thursday 14th July.

The Australian Ballet is one of the world’s leading ballet companies and U3A members will be able to attend a talk given by Adam Bull and Amber Scott, two of the principal dancers in the company at 12.45pm followed by a performance of Swan Lake at 2.00pm.

U3A Royal Society ‘Staying Sharp’ Lecture in association with The European Alliance for the Brain.

Speaker: Professor Richard Faragher, ARCS DPhil FSB

Professor Faragher is an entertaining and informative speaker, familiar to some U3A members. He will explore the potential to transform health in later life, the current state of research and dispel false myths about ageing, among other topics - helping us to ‘seize the day’.

The age of Baroque - spectacle and style

The National Gallery Collection
June 2nd 11am - 3.30pm - £18 per ticket

Following the success of our joint ventures exploring paintings in the National Gallery’s Collection both chronological and thematically, the National Gallery is delighted to be hosting another U3A study day which will focus upon the 17th century Baroque style in Italy, Spain, France and the Netherlands. This follows on from the study days on Italian and Northern Renaissance paintings

The meeting will introduce key themes and concepts, functions, chronology and techniques. The day will provide you with a well-rounded experience of various and fascinating aspects of the age of Baroque.

Join National Gallery experts for a baroque extravaganza. Enjoy a feast for the eyes, from the courtly splendour of works by Rubens and Van Dyck, to the light, darkness and drama of Rembrandt and Caravaggio’s revolutionary paintings.
