Hayling Island U3A AGM

Next Thursday is our Annual General Meeting. Click here for more details and the agenda. The minutes of the 2018 AGM were published in the Summer Newsletter.

It will also be an opportunity to learn more about some of our groups and what is involved in leading one.

Years of change exhibition

From Mike Burnham:

We are still requiring your help in loaning artefacts for the exhibition, for example, household articles of the period (1919 - 1946), toys, children books, birthday and Christmas cards, wartime memorabilia. Articles which are not for handling will be displayed in display boxes. If you think you could help please get in touch so I can arrange collection or delivery - click here to log in and get contact details.

The Exhibition will open on Saturday the 2nd November at 11am at the Royal British Legion Club in Legion Road, and will last until Sunday 17th November.

We would welcome the support of your time in Stewarding the Exhibition and rota boards will be available at Thursday's AGM. The Exhibition will be open Mondays to Thursdays 10am to 3pm. and on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays 10am to 6pm. We ask that stewards offer 2 hour time slots. Stewarding is not a strenuous task and affords the opportunity of talking with a wide range of folk.

Horse-drawn barge trip

We still have some places on this trip which will take place on 9th October.

The AGM is the last chance to book a place on this visit as Debbie has to book and pay for the seats on the barge. If you have put your name down but not yet paid for the visit, please pay by the AGM.

More details about the visit here.

Change to the September walk

Tricia Farnham is leading the walk on 23rd September. Her original intention was to lead a canal walk starting from Hunston, but she found the pub there no longer serves lunches on Mondays. So, instead, the walk will start at the George in Finchdean. Note that The George is asking for food selections before the day of the walk. More details here.

Science and Technology

From Paul Chapman:

The next talk at the Science and Technology Group will be given by Percy Phelps entitled "The Honey Bee : The Science and Engineering" with a bee hive on display. All members of the Hayling Island U3A are welcome with non members of the S & T Group making a small payment of £2 towards the cost of hall hire and refreshments.

The meting will be held in St Patricks Church hall at 2.30 pm on Weds. 25th September.

30% discount to members

The U3A Trust tells us we are eligible for a 30% discount on books and other offerings from Bloomsbury Publishing. More details here.
