A trip on the historic Grand Western canal in one of the last remaining horse-drawn barges in the UK. During your journey, you will hear memorable tales, anecdotes and historical facts about the horse-drawn barge and the canal. There is often two minutes silence, where the peace and tranquility of travelling by horse-drawn barge can be fully appreciated.
We leave HIADS at 9am and pickup at the usual points before leaving the Island. We'll travel to the Tiverton canal wharf in time to join the barge at 2.15pm. There is an outdoor cafe at the wharf so there'll be somewhere to have refreshments while we wait.
The canal trip takes an hour to get to East Manley where we'll stop for half an hour while the horse recovers, giving us an opportunity to stretch our legs before returning to the wharf.
Toilets, tea, coffee, alcohol and snacks are available on board the canal boat - purchases will require cash - cards can't be processed on the boat.
We expect to get back to HIADS between 8 and 8.30pm.
The cost is £35 per person.
There is a possibility to provide assistance if you are disabled. Please let us know if you'd like to take advantage of the offer.
