Views from the wings

Speaker, playwright and author, Brian Freeland will share backstage gossip from his experience at our Monthly meeting next Thursday at 2pm. He's worked in variety and with: the Royal Shakespeare Company, Scottish Opera, and Sadlers Wells Ballet.

More details here.

Visit to Exbury gardens and steam railway

There are fewer than 10 places left for this visit on Thursday 11th May which costs £34 per member.

Click here to find out more about the visit and make a booking.

You can also discuss the visit with Catherine and pay for your booking at Thursday's monthly meeting. We can accept:

  • Cash
  • Cheques
  • Card payments (although you'll need to wait to the end of the meeting as we'll be using the card readers to accept member subscriptions)

If you book online, we explain how to pay with a card or bank transfer.

Science and Technology meeting

The next meeting is on 22nd March at 2pm in St Patrick's Hall. John Worley will present 'End of farm food'. Non-group members welcome for a small entrance fee.

Membership renewals

Memberships expire on 31st March. Renewal costs £15 for full members and £10 for associates. Thank you to everyone who has already renewed, or told us they are not renewing. We've collected a quarter of the subscriptions already.

If you haven't renewed yet there will be four desks at the next two monthly meetings:

  • Two for cash and cheques
  • Two for card/phone payments

Please come a little early so we can process payments before the meeting starts.

To avoid the queues, renew online here. Please do not make credit card payments or bank transfers without completing the simple renewal form - that causes extra work for Peter and Bob.

Hayling u3a books

You can buy the books for £6.50 each or £12 for the pair at monthly meetings.

Photo ids for elections

A reminder you will have to provide photo-id when voting in elections from May 2023.

More details about what you can use as id - and how to get a free 'voter authority certificate' - here.

Charity bridge festival

Following on from the success of its 40th Anniversary Charity Bridge Festival, national u3a will be running the 2023 Spring Charity Bridge Festival during the week of Monday 22nd May to Friday 26th May 2023, all in aid of Alzheimer's Research and AgeUK.

Whether you are playing online, playing face-to-face Duplicate or 4+ players gathering for a game of Chicago or Social Bridge, there’ll be “something for everyone”, based around Simultaneous Pairs with follow-up commentaries.

More information here.

Some new groups to consider

  • New Knitting/Crochet group
  • Sea shanty singing group
  • Mah-jong – beginners are welcome as well as experienced players
  • Dining group for singles

Please let Trevor Brash know if you are interested in any of the above so we can assess demand before setting up the new group.

We are also setting up a Jigsaw exchange – would you be interested in a Jigsaw exchange where you can borrow/lend out jigsaws?
