Hidden depths: Women of the RNLI

Next Thursday's monthly meeting is an opportunity to find out how women have always been at the heart of the RNLI and its work of saving lives at sea. The talk will transport you to all parts of our coastline and introduce you to some fascinating women. Expect tales of courage, endurance, enterprise, imagination, loyalty, commitment and immense generosity. Be prepared to shed a tear but also to laugh out loud.

Can you help the 'years of change' project?

The project is making good progress and this month we are appealing for members to look through their cupboards to see if they have any interesting object from the 1920’s 30’s or 40’s which we could borrow for the Exhibition in November. We are interested in toys of the period, common everyday articles. Things which depict daily life.

We would also like to make contact with any member who can write script on advertising black boards like these:

We would like to reproduce the advertising boards used by the bus company to encourage people to take local charabanc trips.

We welcome help with the exhibition, if you would like to become involved please give me a ring,

Mike Burnham

Visit to Brighton Pavilion

Our next visit will be to Brighton Pavilion on Wednesday 22nd May. The coach will take us to the Pavilion and pick us up from there. In the meantime you can visit the Pavilion or any of the other local attractions - including The Lanes.

You can book your place at Thursday's monthly meeting or click here to see alternate ways to book - including online.

Home page photos

You might have noticed that we've rearranged the HI U3A web site home page. Hopefully you'll agree it is an improvement.

It would be good to have some new photos to illustrate what we get up to. Please let me have any photos you think might be suitable. I can crop and resize them so just send what you have. Note that the available space on the page is wider than a normal photo so I need landscape photos with plenty of scope for cropping at the top and bottom.

Thanks,

Andy Henderson
