Update from the Changing Years project

Mike Burnham writes:

The project is now well underway, and we have many requests to meet with folks who have stories to tell of their childhood on Hayling or the life their families experienced on Hayling during those years. Living, working, holidaying, or stationed on one of the many Service sites during WW11 give us pictures of life in the 40’s. We are always pleased to meet with and talk with anyone who may have a story to tell.

We are now looking for volunteers who would be prepared to write up information gathered for inclusion in the book we propose to publish. We would also welcome volunteers who would be willing to help with the preparation of exhibition material.

The time scale for the project is that we are hoping to have completed the research and interviews of folk connected with Hayling Island by the end of August 2018, and we will then need to prepare sections for our publication to be available in September 2019. We will also be commencing preparation work for the Exhibition which will take place at the Royal British Legion in September/November 2019.

We hope to include as many U3A members as possible in this project and if you would like to help in any way please let me know. Many thanks,

Mike Burnham.

Changes to the First World War project pages

We have revamped the project pages to match the style of our main web site. Click here to see the new project web site. This is now a one-page site that links into the project pages on our main web site. Here you can:

  • Find out how we went about the project
  • See some of the materials we created including all the posters displayed at the 'Life and Times' exhibition
  • Find out how to get hold of our book: The Life and Times of Hayling Island 1914 - 1919

Also, if you log into the members' area, you can see some excerpts from the book.

If you have friends or relatives that you think might be interested, please direct them to www.hayling1914-19.org.uk and encourage them to buy a copy of the book. Thanks.

To help people find out about our two big projects we have added a 'Projects' entry in the menu across the top of each page. To make room for the new entry we have moved 'Forums' into the 'News & Articles' menu.

We send this email on the week-end before each monthly meeting. If you have something you'd like to include please let me know.
