U3A notices for March 2020

The following are our notices for March 2020. Could you please inform anyone you know not on email:

  • The Monthly meetings for March, April, May and June 2020 are cancelled. Further notices will be sent out on a monthly basis until we are able to resume all our meetings.
  • We are looking for volunteers for the following:
    • Manning the stand at the 3 Churches Fete on August 12th
    • Meeters and Greeters for the table at the Monthly meetings. We are obviously hoping to resume meetings in June/July if that is possible.
    • Two or more people to work together as Visits Co-ordinators from September 2020 onwards to take over from Debbie Wilsher who has done a sterling job over the last few years.
  • We have a couple of suggestions for organisation of the Monthly Meetings and need your comments and thoughts:
    • Leaving the front row seats in the meetings for those with visual impairment.
    • Car sharing to help alleviate some of the parking problems. We have had a meeting with the Council regarding the issues with parking and although there may be ways to improve the parking sometime in the future, we need to do something about the difficulties now. We are proposing to set up an informal car share scheme to begin with. If this does not work then we would take that a step further and set up a more formal system. If we can get ‘our’ cars to contain more than 2 or 3 members when coming to the monthly meetings then we should be able to get greater attendance and more of us will be able to park.
  • The following suggestions for Interest Groups have been proposed and we would like to know if any of you are interested. so please contact us:
    • Nordic walking
    • Summer sea swimming
    • Another Petanque group
    • IT workshops
    • Railway History
    • Hayling History 1947-2000 - a third book.
  • The National U3A Open day which we were joining on the 3rd June has now been postponed until the 1st October 2020. Speak with your Group Leaders to come up with ideas on how to show case your group's activities.
  • Calling all scientists, engineers and IT specialists - the National U3A run an annual Robot Challenge. This year’s constructors challenge will be held on 1st October so it gives you plenty of time to join forces and develop one or two robots from the Hayling U3A. Let us know if you are interested in developing a team. Further details can be found at u3asites.org.uk/cannock-chase/page/92257. You can always meet via Skype (or similar) to start your construction plans.
