The following are the notices from the Executive Committee May 2020...
- The Monthly meeting for July 2020 is cancelled. We will continue to send out notices monthly until we are able to resume all our meetings.
- Overdue subscriptions: Members are reminded that subscriptions for 20/21 are now overdue. Thank you to the majority who have now paid. Your early attention would be appreciated.
- We would like you to complete a simple questionnaire on the website. This is to inform us on how we are doing as an organisation and what we can do to improve you experience of our U3A. Please click here to go to the survey now.
- Andy Henderson has set up a facility on the website which allows groups to have their own zoom-like meetings via the HIU3A website.
- The service is free, and there is no need to install any software or application.
- The meetings are password protected; can happen any time; and, unlike Zoom, do not have a time limit.
- The meeting rooms are always open so as soon as two or more group members log in using the ‘Join an online Meeting’ link in their group page, they are immediately connected.
The meeting room page provides more information about: the service; potential issues and how to solve them; and suggestions for helping meetings to run smoothly.
Group Leaders please take time to look at this facility to see if it will be useful to your group going forward.

As you may know, there are several scams that are targeting the vulnerable. Here are a few ways of finding out about the current scams, how to report them and tricks to being more secure online.
- The U3A Trust is holding an online talk, sponsored by several banks, to enlighten us about the current scams. The talk is on 12th May. Click here to register for it.
- For general advice, click here to go to the Citizens Advice web site and scroll down to the section on scams.
- If you have a phishing email forward it to report@phishing.gov.uk
- If you are unlucky enough to loose money through online fraud contact Action Fraud via www.actionfraud.police.uk or call 0300 123 2040
- Always use web sites that start https:// these are secure sites. Furthermore if you are paying for anything on the web take a look at the customer feedback, always check for the padlock symbol on the screen and finally if it seems to be too good to be true then it is probably NOT true and leave the site.
