The weird, the wild & the wonderful

The second part of Andrew Negus' adventures and experiences while travelling around the world in 1991 (we heard the first part in April 2018). He promises a historical, educational and entertaining presentation.

Andrew is a popular speaker and will be well worth a listen.

Car parking at the community centre

Paul Chapman writes:

Everyone will be aware that parking at the Community Centre has become more difficult, especially since the new extension was built.

The Barley Mow Carvery has very kindly agreed to a maximum of 15 cars to be parked on their premises for the duration of the U3A main meetings. In order to ensure that there are no more than 15 cars, dated vouchers will be available from a committee member at the door of the Community Centre. It is important the cars are parked at the Northern end of the car park as far as possible from the entrance to the Carvery.

Of course, if you decide to treat yourself to a lunch at the Carvery before the meeting, you will not require a voucher.

Please also consider using an alternative method to get to the meeting, if possible, in order to help out members who have no option.

Changing years project

Mike Burnham writes:

The Exhibition at the Royal British Legion will run from Saturday the 2nd November to Sunday the 17th November 2019.

The Exhibition will be open each weekday morning from 10am - 12 noon for School parties, and Monday to Thursday afternoons from 12 noon to 3pm for the general public. On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays the Exhibition will be open from 10am to 6pm. These times are to fit into the opening hours of the Legion. We are appealing for stewards to man the exhibition and rota sheets will be available from the August meeting. We do need as many members as possible to volunteer to help, duties are not arduous, in fact people who manned our last exhibition expressed how much they had enjoyed the experience. Volunteers will be able to sit down for most of the time.

We also are seeking hep with putting up the exhibition on Thursday 31st October and Friday 1st November. If you could offer some time it would be most helpful.

With the demise of the Hayling Islander we are limited to the publicity we are able to give to the exhibition. Word of mouth by all our members is going to be an essential element to our advertisement. We shall be advertising at the Three Churches fete, and are preparing a major article for the PO11 Newspaper.

I look forward to your help and thank you in advance for volunteering your time.
