We take it in turns to choose an historical subject, research it and deliver a talk on it.
We are "History Magpies" - it can be anything historical - Local, British, European, World - Ancient or Modern.
We also challenge each other to make a case for e.g. Who was the best King Henry?Who was the best English/British Queen? Who was the best peacetime Prime Minister of the 20th century?
We meet at the British Legion. The contribution towards room hire is £2 each and in addition they would like us to buy a drink.
Recent topics have included the Portsmouth Forts, the Battle of Trafalgar, Margaret Thatcher and the EU issue, The Holodomor, Palestine, Spain at the height of its Empire, the 2nd Duke of Richmond, Tesla (the inventor), Greatest American Presidents, Lord North, The Last Days of the Ottoman Empire, The History of Racism, Dick Whittington, Queen Victoria and the Irish Famine.
