This group is not currently accepting new members. If you would like to join this or a similar group, please register your interest. That will allow us to notify you if a place becomes available. If enough people register an interest we will try to create a new group.
We meet from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on the third Wednesday of the month at Age Concern, Sunny Side Hall, 14 Webb Lane, Hayling Island, Hampshire, PO11 9JE.
Special free parking arrangements are available. There is a kitchen where members can make drinks. Contact me to have your car registered.
We discuss a topic previously chosen by a group member. They then introduce the subject in silence, followed by a discussion where each member contributes as much as they wish. In some cases, material is sent out before the meeting to enable the group to prepare.
Today, we have two separate groups. The first one is full. If you are interested in joining, don't hesitate to contact me, and I will assist you in joining the second group.
Many members use the internet to discover relevant information, which enriches the discussion. We have a coffee break after an hour, which enables general conversation. Topics covered in the past include:
- Plato
- Ideology
- Arne Næss
- Artificial Intelligence
- Rights and Responsibilities
- Assisted Suicide
- The thoughts of individual philosophers ranging from Confucious to Marx.
No previous knowledge of philosophy is needed, and an open mind is a significant advantage.
