Meet at West Town car park at 9am for car share to Boxgrove village hall, postcode PO18 0EE, grid reference SU907077, for walk start at 10. The car park is free of charge.
This is a 5.3 mile walk with no stiles and 350 feet of height gain. It starts on the Windmill Trail and climbs through Halnaker Tunnel (of overhanging trees). We will stop for a break where the path to the windmill leaves our route giving anyone who is feeling energetic enough time for an optional climb to the windmill and back – extra mileage 0.8 miles and extra climb 140 feet. We then drop back to the A286, which we go a short way along, using the wide verge. We turn eastwards to climb up Long Down and descend to Tinwood Lane, and return to the cars via the Tinwood Vineyard.
The route was dry underfoot on the recce. However there may be some mud and puddles in one or two places if we have a lot more rain the week before the walk.
We'll drive back to The Bosham Inn again for lunch, booked for 1-1.30pm.
