If you want to stay for lunch, please book onto the walk before 16th February.
Meet at West Town Car Park for car share to Chidham, leaving at 9.15.
Park at the church in Cot Lane, Chidham, grid reference SU787039, postcode PO18 8TA. If you pass the church on your left, there is a 90 degree bend and parking for ten cars as long as they face the road or face away from the road.
We will start the walk when everyone is ready, and 10.00 at the latest.
We start by calling into the pub to pre-order lunch - toilets are available!
This is a 5.5 mile walk with no stiles and only 25 feet of height gain. We go up Cot Lane then go west to the harbour where there are views to Prinsted and Thorney Island. As we walk we get views of a distant Hayling Island, then Itchenor and finally the distinctive Bosham church. We return to the cars along local footpaths.
High tide of 4.4 meters is scheduled for 15.12 so we should be easily able to cross the half mile section after Cobnor Point which is flooded at high tide. Also we noticed a new section of coast path due to open in February which is on the ground above the beach at Cobnor Point, so we might be able to try it out.
The route is normally dry underfoot. However there may be some mud and puddles in one or two places if we have a lot of rain shortly before the walk.
Lunch is booked at 12.30 for 12 people at The Old House at Home, postcode PO18 8SU. If more than 12 people book on the walk, it is possible that the pub will accommodate one or two more. If numbers are higher than 13 or 14, some of us may need to try another lunch stop on the way home e.g. The Bosham Inn or an eatery in Emsworth.
Note that because we are able to call in at the pub just after 10.00, our route will be the reverse of the one in the .gpx file below.
This is the planned route:
