Solent forts cruise

The next Visit is a bit different from usual. It stems from someone on the committee last year suggesting the Solent Forts as a visit. We have arranged to join Gosport Ferry's 'Three forts cruise'. The cruise leaves from the Gosport side of the Gosport ferry and takes in No Man’s Land, Spitbank and Horse Sand forts. All were designed and built in the 19th century by Lord Palmerston to protect the eastern approaches to Portsmouth Harbour. The cruise includes a commentary, but we will not be able to disembark at any of the forts.

It would be too expensive if we added the usual coach trip. So we will just pass on the Gosport Ferry's £15 charge (there are no group discounts) and ask you to make your own way to the Gosport ferry terminal.

The cruise includes a free trip from Portsmouth to Gosport on the routine ferry. So, instead of going direct to Gosport, you can go to Portsmouth Hard. We'll then meet up at Gosport ferry terminal.

The cruise leaves Gosport at 11.30 and we are asked to get there 30 minutes ahead of time. Please allow plenty of time for your journey. We won't be able to delay the sailing.

Gosport Ferry is holding 50 tickets for us until June 21, when we'll pay for however many we have sold by then.

Disabled people can be accommodated on the boat, and walkers and mobility scooters can be taken on the vessel. There is a disabled toilet on board.

Coffee, tea, soft drinks and snacks (biscuits, chocolate etc) can be purchased on board - payment by cash or card. You can bring your own picnic but, due to the terms of the alcohol licence, only alcohol purchased on board is allowed.
