Ship Inn, Langstone

The U3A Ambling Group will meet for the first time on Thursday morning 11th February.

We will gather at the Community Centre Lower car park (see map above) to share cars and lifts to transport everyone to the Ship at Langstone. As over 30 members have expressed an interest in joining the group, so we will need several cars to transport everybody to Langstone, if they all turn up!! So please consider bringing your car if you are willing to offer lifts. Members can also drive straight to the Ship at Langstone to meet us there if they would prefer to do this.

We plan to leave the Community Centre car park by 10.30am with the aim of leaving the Ship car park by 11am to start the Amble.

We shall be walking along the Havant Road until we reach the entrance to the Old Hayling Billy Trail and will then follow the Trail to the Spring Arts Centre. The walk will take about 30 minutes at ambling pace. Should anyone wish to extend this walk slightly, Sue will lead an additional walk along the remainder of the trail, which extends the walk by about 15 minutes.

The Spring Arts Centre are expecting us from 12 noon onwards and will be offering coffee and refreshments in their Café. Prices are very reasonable and the food and coffee are excellent. There is a good range of sandwiches, panninis, rolls, cake, etc. as well as hot and cold drinks. One can also order a range of hot meals.

We shall also have the opportunity to visit the Hayling U3A’s First World War Exhibition, which is being staged, on the Mezzanine floor of the Museum. The Exhibition has been very well staged and is worth a visit. The Museum itself also has a great deal of material to grab your interest!

The walk to the Spring Arts Centre will be as a group, but I suggest that we could make our own way back in our own time. The walk is very simple to follow. Just make sure that you liaise with your driver if you are sharing lifts!! Thelma and Sue are both planning to leave the Spring by 1pm at the latest.

We look forward to seeing you on the 11th
