Meet at the car park at by the Community Centre to car share leaving at 9.15 am for the Woodmancote pub, Woodmancote Village, PO10 8RD (Lat. 50.862N, Long 0.899W).
We will set off from the pub at 10.am. The walk has very gentle ups and downs and was pretty muddy in parts on 10th April. There are 4 stiles and Bluebells. There is a small amount of road walking at the start but after that it is brilliant!
The ruins appear out of the mist ( or blue depending on the weather). It is a mathematical anomaly which is maybe why it has supposedly been used by devil worshipers. It is also said to have been used for ravers, by smugglers, as a brothel, the paranormal, the occult, for suicides. It was built by the Earl of Halifax and completed in 1772, possibly as a summerhouse for Stansted House or perhaps so that the Earl could check his ships in Emsworth Harbour. It can be seen from the Emsworth Common Road on the left towards Chichester between Aldsworth and Funtingdon.
