Longer walk: Rake

We plan to organise car shares in advance, so will not meet at West Town Car Park.

Park at the Flying Bull pub by London Road in Rake, postcode GU33 7JB, grid reference SU804278. If you are not staying for lunch, there is a layby on the right hand side of the road about 200 meters before the pub, and another on the left hand side about 200 meters after the pub.

The walk will start at 10 a.m.at the latest. It leaves the village by the Serpent Trail through Rake Hanger and climbs gently for 2 miles then drops again through Rogate Common, and we walk to the edge of Rogate. We then head back northwards climbing through Tyning Common to the road at the top of the ridge then drop towards Trotton Marsh and down Tyning Hill. We return to Rake along Canhouse Lane.

It should be generally dry underfoot as all the route is either on greensand or tarmac, but there may be a few muddy and puddly stretches after heavy rain.

The total distance is 7.7 miles, with 800 feet of total height gain.
