We plan to organise car shares in advance, so will not meet at West Town Car Park.
Park at the George, Finchdean, postcode PO8 0AU, grid reference SU738127 (or safely in the small layby or by the roadside in the village if not staying for lunch).
We will not need to order lunch in advance unless there are 10 or more of us. We will start the walk at 10 a.m.at the latest.
We start along the Chalton road then climb steeply up the hillside. We join another road and then a bridleway which climbs gently to the top of Windmill Hill. We then descend steeply to the road at the edge of Chalton. The surface here is grass so not too slippery, but you might want to bring poles for this descent. We go through the churchyard at Chalton then steadily uphill onto Ibsworth Down, then descend gently to Finchdean. Lunch is booked for 1.45 p.m. but food is served all afternoon.
It should be generally dry underfoot with just a few sticky stretches after heavy rain.
The total distance is 6.8 miles, with 700 feet of total height gain.
