We plan to organise car shares in advance, so will not meet at West Town Car Park.
Park in the free car park in the centre of Fernhurst, postcode GU27 3JX, grid reference SU895284 for walk start at 10.00 a.m. at the latest.
The walk heads north-westwards to Shulbrede Priory then circles around Linchmere before returning via Marley Heights and a superb view back to the South Downs. We are in woodland for most of the route, so we should stay relatively cool on a hot sunny day.
There are no steep climbs or descents but it does undulate constantly, with a total distance of 7.6 miles and total ascent of 900 feet.
The route is normally dry underfoot in summer. However there may be some mud in one or two places if we have a lot of rain shortly before the walk.
For lunch we drive back to The Rising Sun in Milland, postcode GU30 7NA. Lunch is booked in the pub for 1.30.
Alternatively a coffee and maybe a lighter bite is available in the nearby community-run Milland Stores & Cafe.
