We plan to organise car shares in advance, so will not meet at West Town Car Park.
Park at the Village Hall in East Dean, postcode PO18 0JB, grid reference SU904130 for walk start at 10.00 am. If the car park is full, it should be possible to park by the roadside in the village. We will leave food orders at the Star and Garter pub before starting the walk.
The walk climbs South out of the valley, goes by the side of the Goodwood racecourse, then descends to Charlton, renowned for the England’s first Women’s Institute. We then go to the edge of Singleton and climb Levin Down. After descending, the walk goes up yet again using part of the West Sussex Literary Trail, then drops back to East Dean.
It was not too muddy when I walked the route in December. I will report back on mud when I walk it again (the right way round!) at the end of January.
The total distance will be 6.4 miles, with around 1000 feet of total height gain.
This is the planned route:
