We go on our annual day out to the Isle of Wight for an 8.6 mile walk on Culver Down, led by Peter Haskell. There are two hills, glorious views, points of interest and hopefully good weather.
The plan is to take the 9.15 Fastcat from Portsmouth Harbour to Ryde Pier Head. We transfer immediately to a waiting train (bus replacement service on this occasion) to Brading. We then walk to Culver Down passing some points of historic interest on the way. There a kiosk selling snacks at the top of Culver Down although you may wish to bring an additional picnic.
We then descend towards Sandown then onward to Shanklin. I intend to book a table at the Fishermans Cottage Inn.
Finally we walk up to Shanklin Station for our return journey in time for a 5.45 or 6.45 return ferry.
Please purchase tickets in advance and be prompt for the morning crossing. Allow the whole day as return times may vary.
