Hamble river cruise

A five hour cruise along the Solent to the beautiful Hamble River. Take in the scenery of this major yachting centre, which has seen shipbuilding activities since medieval times. Return via the north shore of the Isle of Wight to finish with a grand tour of Portsmouth Harbour.

We have arranged to join Gosport Ferry's 'Hamble rivers cruise'. The cruise includes a commentary.

It would be too expensive if we added the usual coach trip. So we will just pass on the Gosport Ferry's £26 charge (there are no group discounts) and ask you to make your own way to the Gosport ferry terminal.

The cruise leaves Gosport at 11.30 and we are asked to get there 30 minutes ahead of time. The cruise includes a free trip from Portsmouth to Gosport on the routine ferry. So, instead of going direct to Gosport, you can go to Portsmouth Hard. We'll meet on the Hard at 10.40 and walk down to catch the 10.52 ferry - the last that gets us to Gosport in time for the sailing.

Those of us planning to travel by bus will need to leave Hayling before 9.30 so will have to pay £3 for the ticket to Havant even if you have a bus pass..

Gosport Ferry is holding 30 tickets for us until May 15, when we'll pay for however many we have sold by then.

Disabled people can be accommodated on the boat, and walkers and mobility scooters can be taken on the vessel. There is a disabled toilet on board (the ferry website states there is no toilet on the ferry but this only applies to the short crossing of the regular ferry).

The ferry has a small bar and sells tea and coffee but no food, so we recommend everyone brings a picnic lunch.
