Meet at West Town Car Park in time for departure at 9.15.
Drive to East Meon, postcode GU32 1PF, grid reference SU677222 and park in the free car park on the western edge of the village.
The route goes south to walk through the wood at Duncombe then west to a path junction with the South Downs Way where we turn north and walk through Emmet’s Down hanger. We briefly join the road to West Meon to cross the infant river, and turn back towards East Meon at the hamlet of Drayton.
We cross the churchyard at the edge of East Meon and we return to the cars via a circuitous route which highlights the streams and cottages of the pretty village.
It should be generally dry underfoot as we are on chalk hills throughout There may however be a few muddy and puddly stretches after heavy rain.
The total distance is 5.1 miles, with 450 feet of total height gain, with 1 stile and no steep climbs or descents.
We return via a lunch stop in Clanfield at The Rising Sun.
