Longer walk: Eartham & the Slindon Estate

This is a longer walk of around 8¼ miles. It starts in the Eartham woods car park on the unnamed road heading north from Eartham (see map, above). The nearest postcode is PO18 0LU which should take a GPS to the right road, but the entrance will probably be a little to the north on the east side of the road.

The route starts on part of the Stane Street Roman road, and then to Eartham. From Eartham it goes up Nore Hill to the folly which should give us some good views. We then go down the hill to start a slow ascent up towards (but not reaching) Bignor Hill. Again, we should get some good views here and a picnic spot. We'll then take a slow descent following Stane Street all the way back to Eartham woods via 'Shippams Poste' (which was donated by Shippams and indicates a confluence of several paths).

Please bring plenty to drink, something for a mid-morning break, and a packed lunch.

If you are going by car, I suggest meeting in West Town car park (as usual for the monthly walk) to arrange a car share leaving at 9.15. We'll start the walk as close to ten as possible. I expect to get back to the Eartham woods car park around 3pm. From there we can adjourn to The George in Eartham for refreshment.

This is the route we took.
