Stoughton - The Hare and Hounds

Total distance about 5 miles. Number of stiles: zero.

Meet at West Town car park at 9:15 as usual to share cars. Drive to Stoughton (approx. 14 miles). Park in car park of the Hare and Hounds, or on road nearby. Postcode PO18 9JQ, grid reference SU 803115.

We have been asked to request our lunch choices before we set out on the walk. I will write a list of people and choices, and give it to the chef just before 10am.

We aim to set off from Hare & Hounds at about 10 a.m.

We'll take the bridleway going SE and gradually uphill. Next take the second left bridleway NE, through Kingley Vale. After a while we will reach the “Devil’s Humps”. An optional climb up the first gives a stunningly good panoramic view of West Sussex. At bridleway “crossroads” go straight over. Continue walking through the wood. (Bill & I saw a deer here.) On reaching a Monarch’s Way sign, turn sharp left and follow the Monarch’s Way downhill back to Stoughton for lunch.

This is the route we took. We went anti-clockwise starting from the car park of the Hare and Hounds, Stoughton.
