Meet at the Barley Mow at 9.35 and catch 31 bus at 9.47 to Havant (toilets in the bus station). Catch 700 Coastliner at 10.12 to Pottery Lane, Nutbourne, postcode PO18 8RN, grid reference SU786055, arriving about 10.30.
This is a 4.5 mile walk with only 20 feet of ascent, and 4 stiles. After Havant bus station, there are no toilets until we reach Emsworth yacht harbour, around 12.30.
We go north to cross the railway at Nutbourne Station and turn back southwestwards at the edge of Hambrook. There are lots of blackberries in this area! We recross the railway and the A259 to join the path which goes along the edge of Chichester Harbour for nearly a mile to Prinsted. There is very little shade in the section so do bring suncream etc. if it's a sunny day. We continue then turn northwards at Emsworth Yacht Harbour, where light bites are available at The Deck cafe. There is also a pub as we reach the main road again (the Lord Raglan, with a waterside garden), or walkers can continue into Emsworth where there are a range of drink and/or lunch options.
Return is on the 700, either from the stop where the minor road into Emsworth leaves the A259, or the stop by the island in the centre of Emsworth.
There should not be any problems with mud in a normal summer but please wear appropriate footwear given the weather forecast and if there are rainy conditions in the preceding days.
This is the planned route:
