Bracklesham and Medmerry

Meet at West Town Car Park by 9.00 a.m. for car share to the public car park at Bracklesham Barn, Beech Avenue, Bracklesham, grid reference SZ808965, postcode PO20 8HU. Toilets available.

We will start the walk when everyone is ready, and 10.00 at the latest.

This is a 4.4 mile walk with no stiles and no height gain. We walk to Earnley and then into the RSPB reserve at Medmerry. We walk back into the village along the shingle beach.

I recce’d the route in January a few days after the floods. The first half mile was passable but with muddy stretches. Unless February is very dry we will probably bypass that path using suburban roads. The rest of the walk is on dyke embankments, gravel or ash tracks, pebble beach and tarmac and is fine underfoot.

Lunch is planned to be at Billy’s On The Beach, postcode PO20 8JH if it is open. The plan is to walk to Billy’s, have lunch, and then walk less than half a mile back to the cars. However if we decide to get the cars first then drive to Billy’s, the parking will only cost 80p for up to 2 hours.

It is possible that Billy's will be closed, in which case we will try the Shore pub in East Wittering, PO20 8DZ.
