First, thanks to David, Peter, Peter, Carl and Charles for their help with the open day. We managed to work with three bikes (two of our own) and two footballs. Not a great achievement but I enjoyed the company, and we managed to avoid Alan Mak, so not all bad.

As for the June ride, I suggest a trip over the downs to Buriton and back via the Butser cutting for elevenses/lunch at Queen Elizabeth Country Park. Previously we’ve run this as a trip to Petersfield by train and a bike back. However, I suspect there’s a preference for riding a circular route that avoids Petersfield. Let me know if I didn’t get that right. The hill to Buriton is a steady incline with just a few, short steeper bits. The Butser cutting hill is a long, steady incline but walkable if necessary.

That being said, the weather forecast has dithered a bit. It’s not looking bad at the moment, but that could change so please keep an eye on this forum topic if you plan to come.

I’m considering an Isle of Wight ride for September. I’ve a few routes in mind. I’ll publish details soon for discussion.

      Hi Andy

      Count me in please. 🙂

I assume you still go past The Spring at 10.30 where I can join you.

      Hi Andy

The weather looks like rain tomorrow; 70/80% by 11 o’clock . So sadly, I’m going to give it a miss tomorrow.

      Hopefully better luck next month.

      👋🏼 Hella

Hella’s right. The weather forecasts say rain is increasingly likely as we go towards lunchtime. But the Met Office is pessimistic with a 60% chance at 11 rising to 90% at 3. The Met Office says 36% rising to 50%. My personal preference, Metcheck, says 27% of 0.1mm (not a lot) rising to 33% of 1.8mm (not a downpour, but we’d definitely notice it).

The wind forecast has died down a lot.

With just David and Peter opting to join me, I suggest we meet up at HIADS at 10 to make a final decision.

With the latest forecast, I’m thinking a shorter ride would allow us to avoid potentially heavy showers in the afternoon.

      Hi Andy,

I am happy to give something a try if you are.

See you at Hiads unless I hear anything to the contary in the meanwhile.

      David
