KeymasterHIU3A is planning an open day for 28th May 10am to 3pm. There will be a number of events on the day together with stalls for different groups.
I thought it might be good to set up a free bike check. Even if people turn up only for the check, we can make sure they go away with a flyer about HIU3A.
My initial thoughts are to set up next to the north-south path in Hayling park so we can benefit from passing traffic. If the weather is bad, I’ve asked to be put in the small hall so people can bring bikes inside directly without having to take them through the centre.
We can talk more on the forthcoming rides but let me know if you can help with any of:
- Ushering – talking to people, managing (any) queue, handing out flyers, etc
- Bike checks – executing a simple ‘M’ check
Note the reference to tire sealant is not only a spelling error but is superfluous for us. - Simple fixes – basic stuff like unoiled chains, brake pads touching tyres, saddle height, fixing punctures (provided people bring a replacement inner tube), maybe even poor gear changing.

KeymasterBTW, Calvin – the guy in blue in the video – is an icon if only for his moustache! If you’ve searched YouTube for ways to do things with your bike, you’ll almost certainly have come across one of his excellent Park Tools videos. It’s true they advertise the products but he manages to be informative regardless of which tools you use.
Apparently he’s retiring – which is a great shame for us, but his videos will endure.
